Greetings |

|
I am honored and privileged to serve as the
2013 President of the Gate City Bar Association.
Thanks to the fine work of our past presidents
and our Immediate Past-President, L. Christopher
Stewart, the Gate City Bar Association has
continued to thrive. We have had many major
accomplishments over the past years, and I am
looking forward to building upon those
successes. |
 |
|
The Gate City Bar Association was founded in
1948 by ten African-American attorneys for the
purpose of providing the educational, social and
community involvement of a professional
association for African-American attorneys, who
had been excluded from participating in
Georgia’s segregated bar associations. |
|
|
 |
|
Our mission is to create in the community a practical
appreciation for the legal profession; to encourage
persons of outstanding promise to attend first rate law
schools and return to the communities that need their
services the most; to oppose arbitrary and capricious
laws in our state with all the force and fiber of which
we are capable as an organization; to uphold and extend
the principles of justice in every phase of American
life to the end that no one shall be discriminated
against because of color, race, religious beliefs or
national origin. |
 |
|
My theme for the 2013 bar year is “Refining our
Purpose: Galvanized to Serve, Committed to Lead.”
This year, my administration’s goals are to grow and
maintain our membership, reinvigorate our relationships
with our inactive past members, enhance visibility and
support to the community, and continue our efforts to
increase diversity in various areas of practice, such as
our judiciary. |
